Adult Bible Fellowships

The Coffee Service team serves the Adult Bible Fellowships by offering coffee, water and tea to adults attending one of the classes.

Responsibilities:

  • Hospitality – You’ll staff the Coffee Galley in the adult wing, offering coffee, water or tea to our guests and members.
  • Cleanliness – You’ll help keep the Coffee Galley neat and clean.
  • Inventory – You’ll keep the Coffee Galley stocked with supplies and keep the coffee machine filled and operating properly.
  • Information – You’ll offer guidance and information to anyone needing assistance.

The “Chair-Men” serve the Adult Bible Fellowships by setting up the rooms prior to the Sunday morning services. The condition of a room makes an impression on those who enter, and the Chair-Men are committed to having that impression be excellent.

Responsibilities:

  • Service – On your assigned week, usually once per month, you’ll set up each of the Adult Bible Fellowship classrooms.
  • Cleanliness – You’ll tidy up the adult classrooms and hallways, gather and remove the lost-and-found and make sure the adult spaces are neat and orderly.
  • Timing – On your assigned week, you’ll come in on Saturday late afternoon / evening or early Sunday morning.

Teachers fulfill a critical role in the life of God’s people. They serve as examples in both knowledge and faith. They are to be held in the highest regard by the church. Therefore, teachers must commit to the highest standards of Christian living.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare – You’ll prepare for each class by spending time in study, prayer and planning.
  • Teach – You’ll teach a lesson for the class, emphasizing the supremacy of the Bible in the everyday life of the believer.
  • Lead – You’ll serve as the primary class leader, coordinating the class structure and overseeing all of the other class roles. This does not apply to Substitute Teachers.
  • Relate – You’ll strive to build relationships with your students and foster an environment of fellowship among the class members.

Gifts / Skills / Abilities:

  • Mature faith and a good working knowledge of the Bible (Being a teacher of adults does not automatically come with the official title of Elder, but the qualifications would be very similar to the biblical qualifications of an Elder found in 1Timothy 1 and Titus 1, and each teacher should make that biblical standard his life’s goal.)
  • Agreement with the “Leadership Covenant” of Colonial Baptist Church
  • Agreement with the “Doctrinal Statement” of Colonial Baptist Church
  • For Lead Teachers, membership is required.

Hospitality

The greeters and welcome desk volunteers show hospitality and provide essential information to our members and guests each Sunday morning and at special events throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Observation – You’ll constantly be on the lookout for those who seem to be visitors, or anyone who seems uncertain about where to go.
  • Hospitality – Depending on where you’re stationed, you’ll greet members and guests, open doors, provide information, suggest classes or escort visitors to their destination.
  • Safety – When you notice someone needing special assistance, you’ll notify a pastor or a member of the security team.
  • Information – You’ll be aware of the various classes and opportunities that people can choose from and be able to guide visitors to the proper area of the facility.

Heir Traffic Control helps our members and guests navigate the parking lot safely, quickly and efficiently and helps us maximize our parking lot usage. This is a Sunday morning position, serving during the transitions between the worship services.

Responsibilities:

  • Hospitality – You’re the first person that our guests encounter, and you make our first impression. When you notice a car with it’s emergency flashers on, you’ll direct them to visitor parking.
  • Communication – You’ll keep in radio contact with other volunteers to help you know where parking is available and direct people to available parking.
  • Courtesy – You’ll direct people to open parking spots in your area. When appropriate, you might open car doors, assist with strollers, offer an umbrella, jump-start a dead battery or other acts of courtesy.
  • Safety – You’ll watch for dangerous situations and help pedestrians navigate the parking lot.

The ushers show hospitality and service to our members and guests during the weekly worship services.

Responsibilities:

  • Hospitality – You’ll greet those who gather for worship and offer them our weekly Communique.
  • Logistics – You’ll assist worshippers in finding a seat and help maximize seating capacity of the Worship Center. You’ll participate in collecting the financial gifts from the congregation.
  • Safety – When you notice someone needing special assistance, you’ll help them or notify a pastor or a member of the security team.
  • Appearance – You’ll wear a dress shirt, tie and a suit or sport coat.

Men’s Ministry

The Logistics Team serves in a variety of different capacities, working behind the scenes to make sure that events and activities are well supported and running smoothly.

Responsibilities: (The responsibilities vary and you may do some or all of the following:)

  • Cooking – You might assist with cooking breakfast for a quarterly event or the weekly Wednesday morning Bible study.
  • Set up – You might assist in setting up tables and chairs for an event or activity.
  • Clean up – You might assist in resetting the facility to the proper condition following an event.

  • Willing to arrive early and/or stay late for events and activities

A mentor spends time with another man, building into him spiritually, personally or professionally. Occasionally a young man will ask for a mentor, and we pair him up with an older man from this team.

Responsibilities:

  • Time – You’ll meet with the man you are mentoring on a schedule that the two of you agree to.
  • Generosity – You’ll share your experience, insight and wisdom with a younger man.
  • Discipleship – You’ll strive to facilitate spiritual growth and development in the man you meet with.

  • A growing and vibrant walk with God
  • A good working knowledge of the Bible
  • A desire to see men grow professionally, personally and spiritually

A Small Group Leader facilitates discussion, prayer and accountability with a group of men.

Responsibilities:

  • Faithfulness – You’ll attend either the Monday night or the Wednesday morning Men’s Bible Study and lead a small discussion group following the lesson. 
  • Accountability – You’ll contact each man in your group once per week to check in on him, get to know him and encourage him in his walk with God.
  • Commitment – You’ll complete any homework or reading that is part of the Bible study so that you are prepared to lead your group effectively.
  • NOTE – This is not a teaching role. A lesson will be taught to the entire group, and you’ll lead a discussion on that lesson using the questions provided.

Women’s Ministry

A discipler / mentor spends time with another woman or small group of women, building into her spiritually and personally.

Responsibilities:

  • Time – You might meet with a woman personally on a schedule that the two of you agree on. Another option is to lead a small group of women in a Bible study and discussion.
  • Generosity – You’ll share your experience, insight and wisdom with younger women.
  • Discipleship – You’ll strive to facilitate spiritual growth and development in the women you meet with.

  • A good working knowledge of the Bible
  • A desire to see women grow personally and spiritually

The Facilities Team serves in a variety of different capacities, working behind the scenes to make sure that events and activities are well supported and running smoothly.

The Fellowship Team looks for ways to promote fellowship and develop relationships between women. Possible avenues for this ministry include serving in Book Club, Widows Might or the occasional Pastors’ wives appreciation events.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize – You might be involved in organizing and planning events to promote and enhance fellowship.
  • Relate – You’ll help develop an atmosphere of fun and relaxation that promotes relationships.
  • Serve – You’ll be involved in serving the ministry in various creative capacities.

The Nursery and Childcare team provides loving care to babies and children, allowing young mothers to study God’s Word.

Responsibilities:

  • Care – You’ll watch over and provide loving care to babies and children.
  • Commitment – You’ll serve either during MOPS on Tuesday Morning or Women’s Bible Study on Wednesday morning.
  • Faithfulness – You’ll learn and follow all of Colonial policies and procedures for keeping children safe.
  • Teaching – You might read or teach a Bible story or lead a craft for children who are old enough.
